They sell themselves on having access to official products, but when someone asks about something missing or a game system that is lacking, they say "Well, the community should build it, if nobody builds it, it won't exist" as if you weren't paying them money.Īs if you were being lazy, despite paying them. They sell themselves on their automation ability, but if it's something they didn't really need in their own game, it's basically just not there. If asked about things like the ability to use multiple monitors or the UI, they respond with something along the lines of "Well, I don't need that".
#5E FANTASY GROUNDS 2 PIRATE MOD#
If you ask about literally any accessibility feature even just stuff like the ability to draw a straight line locked to the grid on the vision blocking layer, you'll get a mod to come in and declare like "Well, I don't need that". Smiteworks as a whole seems to have this philosophy where they are building a program only for their own table & game, which is largely a reason I don't use MapTool anymore either. But these things will keep a lot of people from adapting it. I personally will continue to use FG as long as it is being supported and have no desire to go back to Roll20. Even then, the fact it’s a program and is less accessible than the browser based platform Roll20 has may keep it from ever being able to overtake it simply due to that barrier.
#5E FANTASY GROUNDS 2 PIRATE FREE#
They really need to streamline the UI, find some popular streamers to support the platform, and find some free alternative where people can use the system with SRD material or something if they want to be able to have a shot at overtaking Roll20. I think this exposure plays a big part in it as well.Īs long as these things remain true, I don’t see a way FG overtakes Roll20. Prior to this, FG didn’t have any big streamers running things on the platform compared to what Roll20 was doing with Koebel before that whole situation went sideways. FG also doesn’t officially support the 4E content he is using, so if people wanted to replicate his game, they couldn’t. FG has Colville running a 4E game now, which is great, but not officially backed by FG as far as I know. More popular streamers are using/have used Roll20 for their games. Both have complexities that you can get into and FG is better overall if you want automation in your games, but for basic things it is more simple to do them in Roll20. More intuitive setup than FG, especially for the basic things. Web browser based, so it’s a lite program compared to FG, also gives the benefit of being able to access a game whenever without the DM needing to have the game open To use FG, someone has to have paid for it. I personally prefer it, but at the end of the day the reason Roll20 is more popular is based on a few things:įree games that anyone can use the platform for.

I used FGC, kickstarted FGU and use it now.
